Microsoft and Sony have known to suffer losses from selling their consoles and have high hopes that software sales will turn the tide n their favor. However Nintendo claims to have optimized production costs as a result of which it is earning good margin on every console sold to the customer.

The vision for the Nintendo Wii was in the works as early as 2000. However, the public didn’t get a taste of the concept until mid 2004. The goal of Nintendo with this product was to revolutionize the home gaming console industry. Many consumers were very excited about the ideas but some worried that they wouldn’t be able to materialize.

Those doubts were soon cast aside though when Nintendo revealed their concept for the wireless controller at a show in Japan in 2005. In late 2006 The Nintendo Wii was in high demand. In fact, stores couldn’t get enough of them to fill the demands for the holidays. Many people were paying thousands of dollars for them on eBay and other online auction sites. The road to such success was one that took many twists and turns though. In 2001 Nintendo released the GameCube. The name of the Wii was changed many times before it was released. One of the top names that was considered was Revolution. However, the executives of the Wii had a worldwide vision for this home gaming console. Therefore, they wanted a name that would be simple to pronounce in any given language.

Ever since Nintendo bought ‘new ways to play’ via the features of the Wii and DS’s new control methods, along came a massively expanded audience that had not necessarily had the term ‘video game’ included as their past-time activities. More so than ever, girls, parents and even grandparents are playing videogames and more specifically Wii and DS thanks to Nintendo’s vision and risk of creating this new hardware.

While this may ring true to a certain extent, you cannot blame Nintendo for following a path that is succeeding. They are a business first and foremost and therefore their first priority is to cater for sharholders, or more simply, make a profit. Profiting they are.

Let’s not forget at this stage that very early in the Wii’s lifecycle we have seen the release of a new Mario game, a new Zelda game, new Metroid, Mario Kart. Even so, many people, myself included were very disappointed with Nintendo’s E3 showing in 2008. Wii Music and a near identical version of Animal Crossing DS for Wii did little to quench peoples hunger for core first party titles. The Internet was once again rife with disappointment from Nintendo loyalists – ‘where are the core games?’ they cried.

The core games were there, not literally, but being worked on in the background. Critical successes namely GTA: Chinatown Wars, Madworld and House of the Dead. Nintendo decided at E3 last year to concentrate on its casual titles. The company know better than their followers their target market and what is keeping those shareholders happy. Hence the ‘casual’ theme at E3 2008. At the same time they know their customers have been loyal and expect much of the company and their first party ‘hardcore’ titles. I am sure Reggie and Co. had many discussions with Rockstar for example to get the GTA franchise on a Nintendo console.

So the hardcore gamer moaned of lacking mature titles, Nintendo listened, reacted and so did third party developers. A stream of hardcore titles entered the market and the hardcore gamer simply did not respond. Madworld, GTA and House of the Dead all sold way below expectations. Nintendo and it’s third party developers put their money where there mouth is, why did the harcore gamer not follow suit?

It is hard to believe that with Nintendo’s impressive hardware and software sales worldwide month after month, that in a certain respect the big N is in a lose – lose situation. The company receives much flack for ignoring the hardcore gamer, yet when they are fed, the gamer choses not to eat. What more can Nintendo and the third party developers do?

I am not a fortune teller but I can imagine what they will do is approach mature Wii and DS content with much caution from hereon in and continue to pump out casual title after casual title. Can you blame them? Should the hardcore gamer continue to have the right to moan about something they desire but don’t support.

The Super Nintendo was released in 1991 and quickly became a success. It sold almost 50 million consoles and was the home to great exclusives like Mario World, Zelda, and Final Fantasy. The Super Nintendo console can be hard to find now though because Nintendo hasn’t manufactured them for almost a decade. So how do you find one? How much will it cost? And what should be included? Below are five easy tips to help you save money and time shopping for your SNES console.

1. Console’s Cost $35 or Less: The prices vary quite a bit from store to store, but you can find SNES consoles with everything included for less than $35. I have seen systems listed for as much as $200 brand new so be sure you look around before over paying. If you shop around you can save a lot of money.

2. Buy Used: Nintendo stopped selling Super Nintendo consoles in 1996 and because of this new systems are hard to find. A new SNES is next to impossible to find, and if you do find one you will pay dearly for it. Thankfully, the Super Nintendo is very durable so buying pre-owned consoles is a great option. The Super Nintendo isn’t like the original Nintendo where you have to blow into all old systems and have just the right technique to get it working.

3. Don’t Shop in Retail Stores: You will most likely be wasting your time. All major retails and most used video game stores have stopped selling Super Nintendo consoles and games. They have moved on to the newer systems and don’t have room for it anymore. Only independent video game shops have a chance of carrying the system anymore. Even most Gamestops and EBGames stopped carrying Super Nintendo games a long time ago.

4. Shop Online: The best place to find a Super Nintendo console and games is in online stores or ebay. You can search google or shopping comparison websites and find quite a few available. And like everything else in the world, you can find Super Nintendo systems on Ebay too. Be careful you don’t over pay for shipping online though, especially on Ebay. Many retailers have a low list price for the system, only to charge really high shipping rates.

5. Watch What is Included: Out of the box the Super Nintendo came with two controllers, an Cable adaptor, and an AC Adaptor. You will need all three of these items for your console to work, so be sure you buy from a shop that explicitly states what is included. You don’t want to think you got a good deal on a console only to find it didn’t include a controller, which will cost you more money to buy separately.

BONUS: A Super Nintendo console is worthless without some games so try to buy from a store that carries a wide selection of games too. There is no sense in spending more time finding the games somewhere else when you can buy them all in one location. And you will usually get discounted shipping on the games too!

GBA and NDS Nintendo games

In early 2003, Nintendo upgraded the Game Boy Advance giving it an internal front-light that can be turned on or off, a rechargeable lithium ion battery, as well as a folding case approximately half the original size. Nintendo’s competitors in the handheld market were the Neo Geo Pocket Color, Bandai Swan Crystal, Game Park 32, Tapwave Zodiac and the Nokia N-Gage. Despite the competitors’ best efforts, Nintendo maintained its majority market share with the Game Boy Advance.

To date, Nintendo has sold 80,500,000 GBA units around the world. Over half of those in the Americas and 16 million in Japan at second place.

The Game Boy Advance has become the modern flagship of sprite-based games. With hardware superior to the Super NES it has proven that sprite-based technology could improve and live side by side with the 3D games of today’s consoles. The Game Boy Advance not only has one’s typical platformers, but also a huge collection of SNES-style RPGs. It has also become a popular system for old-school gamers due to the increasing amount of games ported from various 8-bit and 16-bit systems of the previous era. Through the use of flash cartridges and emulators the Game Boy Advance can even play NES and TurboGrafx-16 games, as well as AGI-based Sierra On-Line PC adventure games.

Rumor Report

Over three years ago, the Nintendo DS has been brought to our attention. Over two years ago, they brought out another Nintendo system, the Nintendo DS Lite. Many good changes were on the DS Lite, and better features than the regular DS. With the two systems combined, the sold a lot, and made a lot of money. (What all company’s want). They sold 18 Million Dollars in the United States alone! Add another 27 Million Dollars in Japan sold, and you got 45 Million Dollars. If my calculations are correct, they sold a total of 6,300,000,000! That’s 6 billion dollars. Add the Nintendo Wii’s sales, and you got another great profit Nintendo made!

If your a true Nintendo DS gamer, you will buy multiple DS’s, so that you can color co-ordinate your clothes (with your DS). After they get tired of owning too many colored DS’s, they go sell them for over $300.00! Why is it high? Because they buy all the accessories that match the DS. And probably because they own the limited edition, and want to sell it for more (to get profit).

With all the sales they’ve been getting, and all the exposure the Nintendo DS Lite has been getting lately, it’s hard to believe that rumors are spreading that rumors of a new Nintendo DS would be coming out soon. That’s what the President of Enterbrain thinks.

He is guessing that the new Nintendo DS would be unveiled during their annual press conference at the E3 Media and Business Summit. Usually, Nintendo starts their conferences before the exposition starts on July 15th.

However, it won’t help because they are already experiencing DS shortages in the US and Europe, so why waste most of their time thinking up a new Nintendo DS, that will take their minds off all the issues that are happening.

Still unsure. But, personally I don’t think it’s going to be happening. They already have shortages, so why take their minds off that? They’ve got enough problems to deal with, so why add on to their problems (DS Issues). But still, it’s still unsure. And it took only two years to make the Nintendo DS Lite, from the Nintendo DS. (Nintendo DS: 2004 – Nintendo DS Lite: 2006), so chances are still unsure.
